[W]   as in Wow

Sound formation instruction:

To make the [W] sound, round your lips by making a small circle. Then stick them out enough, so they do not touch your teeth. Keep the back portion of your tongue high in the mouth, but do not let it touch the roof. Push the air out and make sure you feel your vocal cords vibrate. Try saying the word: wow, w-o-w. Wow.

Story:

Serena recently went on a camping trip to the well-known Huntsville State Park in Texas with her parents and sister. After waking up and getting dressed on Wednesday, they had waffles for breakfast. Soon, they slowly made their way out of Houston and to their destination. As they weaved through the cars and trucks on the highway, the family was excited about their week-long trip to Huntsville. An hour and a half away, the park was like a jungle compared to the big city, from the wildlife to the wide lakes nearby. However, Serena’s little sister Fiona was disappointed that the park did not have any wolves or whales.

Dressed for the warm weather, the girls watched as more trees came into view. They even passed by some abandoned warehouses and watchdogs. Soon, they realized that they would be without the widescreen television and wireless internet for one week! They wanted to turn the station wagon around and go home. Dad, instead, said, “Wait! You will enjoy the woods there once you arrive! I promise.” Just as he said that, he turned into the park and parked the car in the parking lot.

As soon as they arrived, they got to work. They walked and quickly found a place near the waist-deep water to set up the tent. They wanted to be able to wash themselves easily and to be near the freshwater stream. The girls did not like the worms, the wasps, and the spider webs, but enjoyed hunting for walnuts. As the girls were about to wander off and the sun was setting in the west, mom finished preparing the barbeque wings, and dinner was ready. Mom ate very little because she was watching her waistline. Dad had the firewood ready and prepared a mini bonfire. Thankfully, it did not turn into a wildfire. After working hard the whole day, the family went into the tent and slept.

The rest of the week, including the weekend, went wonderfully. They went fishing at nearby Lake Livingston and took a walk near the Sam Houston Statue. They visited the local diners and were pleased by the waiters and waitresses’ pleasant service and the tasty food. Not being wasteful, they ate everything on every plate and even dessert. Worn-out from their trip, they wished for nothing more than to head home. The girls weren’t excited though. They had workbooks waiting for them when they arrived home.
