It was windy outside the zoo, and Zachary struggled with the zipper on his jacket. He was bored and saw nothing but the backs of the adults in front of him. Several reporters and cameramen crowded around a new exhibit. Zachary asked his mom what everyone was staring at, but she ignored him. Hurt, Zachary decided to explore the zoo on his own and let go of his mother's hand.
The zoo was small, and soon Zachary felt like he had been there a zillion times. Walking back to the new exhibit, Zachary heard a strange noise from behind. He turned around and found himself face to face with a flying zebra. The zebra bent down and let Zachary ride on its back. Suddenly, the crowd at the new exhibit rushed over, shouting and flashing their cameras. The zebra was frightened of the lights and flew away, with Zachary clutching the zebra's neck so he wouldn't fall. “Zach!” he heard his mom shout.
And then he woke up. Zachary's mother called his name and told him to get ready to go to the zoo. There was supposed to be a new exhibit that day and she wanted to be the first zoologist to see. At breakfast, Zachary asked his mom about the new exhibit, and he learned that it was about a gorilla from Zaire. When Zachary asked his mom if zebras could fly, she gave him a puzzled look.
At the zoo, Zachary saw the same reporters and cameramen crowd around the exhibit. When he looked up, he saw the clouds shaped into the image of a flying zebra, and he smiled as he pointed it out to his mom.
